Zaha Hadid - the Design Sorceress
She’s the first woman to ever receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize – architecture’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize. In 2008 Zaha Hadid is the most famous woman architect in the world, the first who made her way to the top alone in what many still consider to be a “men’s world.”
Zaha’s story is amazing and inspiring for many career women: born in Baghdad, she first studied mathematics in Beirut and then moved to London where she graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture.
In 1980 she established her own architecture practice in London and she’s been one of the most respected and acclaimed personalities in the field ever since. She taught at the Harvard University, the University of Illinois, the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, the Ohio State University and she is currently Professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
Her futuristic design is enhancing the architectural scenery in many metropolis around the world. Some of her most famous works include the Vitra Fire Station in Germany, the Bergisel Ski Jump in Austria, the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, Maggie’s Center at the Victoria Hospital in Scotland and the list could go on.
Interior design appeals to Zaha too. One of her most amazing works are the Vortexx Chandelier, the Crevasse Vase and the Aqua Table.

Yes Joy, nature is the most beautiful thing and we do feature a lot of it at TerraHermes, as you see. But we also feature exceptional people, people who dedicate their lives to beauty - and Zaha is one of them.
