No Pure Scandinavian Race

New research from the University of Copenhagen refutes the “pure Scandinavian race” myth.

Iron Age Arab Skull.According to news from the University of Copenhagen, scientist Linea Melchior and other forensic scientists analyzed DNA from 18 individuals buried on two ancient burial grounds (Bøgebjerggård and Skovgaarde). They found that there was enough genetic variation in their remains as one would expect to find in the genetic information of our contemporaries.

The team also identified DNA from a man whose genetic information indicates Arabian origin. The researchers believe that the remains of the Arab Iron Age man may have been those of a soldier serving on the Roman Empire’s northern frontier or those of a descendant of a female slave. These findings suggest that people living 2000 years ago were genetically diverse, which indicates mobility and mixture of races.

“If you look at the geographic position of Denmark, then it becomes clear that the Danes must have been in contact with other peoples… All of our ancestors, no matter when they arrived have contributed to our history and the development of our lifestyle. Indeed, Danish identity is more a definition of where one is physically located and lives today than a question of our past history - since we’re all originally African in origin. That we ended up in Europe was accidental, which is in itself remarkable” – explains scientist Linea Melchior.

The findings have been published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology 135:206–215 (2008) and PLoS One3(5): e2214.

    NEANDERTHALS LIVED IN NORTH AMERICA. THE BERING STRAITS MIGRATION THEORY IS BOGUS. WHILE PEOPLE MAY HAVE COME ACROSS THE LAND BRIDGE, THEY DIDN’T FIND NORTH AMERICA UNINHABITED.

    Fascinating - so many pieces of the puzzle are missing though. Even the ‘Out of Africa’ theory is being questioned.
